Dolphins and Whales around Ireland!

Track Dolphin and Whale sightings in Ireland over this summer…

If you have a love for Cetaceans these websites will inspire you to visit the places in Ireland where Dolphins, Whales and Orcas also like to visit!!

https://iwdg.ie/ – The Irish Whale and Dolphin Group, do great work in tracking a protecting dolphins off the Irish coast. Check out their website for recent sightings, volunteer opportunities and animal welfare concerns.

https://seawatchfoundation.org.uk – is the UK version of the IWDG, and includes sighting off the Northern Irish coast.

If you are interested in a day trip from Belfast to learn more about our sea-birds and sea-life though – your first thought should be Ballycastle and Rathlin Island. The waters around Rathlin Island provide a rich habitat for cetaceans (whales, dolphins and porpoises), seals, basking sharks, common skate and even rare marine turtles. The ferry between the Irish coast and Rathlin takes only a few minutes, but you might well be lucky enough to see a pod of dolphins…

http://www.rathlincommunity.org/ – Catch the train from Belfast to Ballycastle and then jump on the ferry to Rathlin and be inspired by nature for a day!!
